Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Principal Battery Management System (BMS) Engineer in Saline, MI, to provide technical leadership, architectural ownership, and long-term stewardship of advanced battery management solutions across multiple generations. You will define system-level direction, own architecture decisions, and ensure regulatory and functional safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of embedded systems work experience.
• 7+ years of experience with battery or energy systems.
• Expertise in BMS firmware, electronics, and system-level design.
• Deep knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior and safety mechanisms.
• Advanced embedded communication protocols: SPI, I2C, CAN, CANOpen, J1939, UDS.
• Experience defining and evolving system architectures across multiple product generations.
• Experience with DFMEA and system-level risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical authority for BMS architecture across firmware and hardware.
• Define system-level BMS architecture and standards across product lines.
• Lead DFMEA, FTA, and risk assessments with mitigation.
• Develop end-of-line test strategies and diagnostics for manufacturing.
• Ensure BMS designs are manufacturable, testable, and serviceable at scale.
• Guide development of SOC/SOH/SOE, cell balancing, and protection algorithms.
• Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, ISO and functional safety guidance.
• Mentor cross-functional teams in firmware, hardware, and control integration.
