Job summary

Emergent Staffing is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer (Battery Management System) to lead development of a high-voltage BMS platform on site in Carlsbad, CA. You will own BMS software architecture, implementation, validation, and long-term strategy alongside hardware and electrical teams.

The role requires 10+ years in embedded software, 3+ years in high-voltage BMS, and strong C/C++ in Linux environments with test equipment experience. Leadership and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of embedded software development experience.
• 3+ years of high-voltage Battery Management System experience.
• Strong C programming skills with working knowledge of C++.
• Experience with bare-metal embedded systems.
• Deep understanding of distributed high-voltage BMS architectures.
• Knowledge of functional safety principles.
• Experience in Linux development environments.
• Proficiency with Git and source control practices.
• Experience using Python.
• Track record of delivering production-quality embedded software.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and related test equipment.
• Strong technical communication skills.
• Ability to take ownership and lead complex engineering initiatives.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Nice to have: Automotive EV battery systems experience.
• Nice to have: Experience with Tesla, Rivian, hybrid vehicle programs, or similar organizations.
• Nice to have: Knowledge of EV architectures and subsystems.
• Nice to have: Experience with CAN/LIN bus communications.
• Nice to have: Jira familiarity.
• Nice to have: Background in aerospace, medical device, or high-voltage industries.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and ownership of high-voltage BMS software.
• Define technical direction and execution plans for the BMS program.
• Design, develop, debug, test, and validate embedded software.
• Translate system requirements into software architecture and implementation.
• Develop embedded drivers from hardware schematics and component datasheets.
• Bring up, test, and troubleshoot new circuit board designs.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and embedded software teams.
• Participate in code, software design, and schematic reviews.
• Maintain high standards for software quality, performance, and maintainability.
• Support internal ownership of critical vehicle technology.
• Mentor junior engineers as the team grows.
