Job summary

Bridge Analytics seeks a Principal Research Software Engineer to own researcher-facing applications and the underlying data pipelines in a GCP-based Trusted Research Environment. You will build across the stack from BigQuery pipelines to a Next.js frontend and coordinate external data curation resources.

You will work on data harmonization, FAIR datasets, and agentic analytics while enabling scalable compute and end-to-end tests for a growing multi-study portfolio.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building production software and data systems with end-to-end ownership.
• Expert SQL and Python, with production experience on cloud data warehouses (BigQuery) and orchestration (Airflow/Composer) and transformation frameworks (dbt/Dataform).
• Hands-on biomedical, clinical, or 'omics data experience with ability to engage researchers.
• Track record of thriving in high-ownership, early-stage environments and coordinating contractors or consultants.
• Preferred: Full-stack / frontend expertise (Python backend with FastAPI/Flask) and modern React (Next.js/TypeScript) for interactive visualizations.
• Experience with scientific compute workflows (Nextflow/nf-core, WDL, Snakemake) at scale on cloud.
• Familiarity with AI/agent frameworks (Google ADK, Claude Agent SDK, LangGraph) for agentic or data-visualization apps.
• Knowledge of research data standards (FAIR, FHIR, OMOP, GA4GH); schema modeling (LinkML, Pydantic); Trusted Research Environments.

Responsibilities

• Own and extend researcher-facing applications (no-code Visualizer, cohort builder, data catalog) with FastAPI backend and Next.js/TypeScript frontend, against live BigQuery and Dataplex.
• Evolve the agent layer that turns natural-language questions into interactive, publication-quality dashboards.
• Design and operate ingestion, curation, and harmonization pipelines (Cloud Composer/Airflow, Dataform, BigQuery) for multi-modal datasets.
• Coordinate contractor and consultant data curation resources, set standards, and implement data quality, validation, and lineage so datasets are FAIR and discoverable.
• Get workflow engines (Nextflow/nf-core) running elastically on GCP (Batch/GKE) for scalable imaging and omics pipelines.
• Build out end-to-end integrations (Cloud Identity, Dataplex, VPC-SC) and expand tests (Playwright) as portfolio grows.
• Model the data graph (Dataplex + BigQuery) to enable traversing well-described data for researchers and agents.
