Job summary

Fulgent Genetics seeks a Senior Bioinformatics Software Developer II to design, implement, and support large-scale bioinformatics pipelines and data systems. You will lead technical decisions, mentor developers, and collaborate with analysts to deliver scalable software aligned with business goals.

You will oversee tool maintenance, performance optimization, and code quality while contributing to scientific and technical publications as applicable.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree with a major in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Experience with software design, implementation, and deployment of enterprise application software.
• Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, .NET, Python, Bash Scripts.
• Knowledge of Database, SQL.
• Knowledge of GIT Source Control, Windows, and Linux.
• Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.
• Understanding of Requirements Analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of robust, scalable bioinformatics workflows.
• Translate biological questions into computational solutions with stakeholders.
• Maintain and extend existing tools and refactor legacy pipelines.
• Perform code reviews, unit testing, and documentation.
• Support data analysts and scientists with technical troubleshooting.
• Contribute to publications, whitepapers, or validation reports if applicable.
• Architect, develop, test, and maintain Bioinformatics Pipeline Systems.
• Research and develop new algorithms to improve pipeline efficiency.
• Manage data, databases, and system administration tasks.
• Identify and implement process improvements for automation and scalability.
• Build analytics tools using the data pipeline to derive business insights.
• Support operations, processing, and exception handling.
• Design and maintain database schemas and services.
• Oversee system administration and ongoing maintenance.
