Job summary

Freenome seeks a Senior Bioinformatics Research Engineer to advance our computational platform for R&D, building scalable bioinformatics tools and data pipelines. You will collaborate with computational biologists, ML scientists and software engineers to translate scientific roadmaps into production-ready software at scale.

The role offers a Hybrid arrangement in Brisbane, CA, or remote, reporting to the Director of Bioinformatics Research Engineering.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years in bioinformatics infrastructure, automation and software engineering.
• Strong Python programming and large-scale systems experience.
• NGS data analysis and bioinformatics pipelines experience.
• Production software engineering with CI/CD, version control and deployment.

Responsibilities

• Work at the intersection of computational biology, ML research, software engineering and data.
• Lead the development of Freenome’s bioinformatics research engineering framework and internal tools.
• Build for growth as the team scales from research to product development.
• Engineer robust data pipelines for cutting-edge liquid biopsy research.
• Integrate data sources across lab, bioinformatics and clinical domains for multiomic analysis.
• Improve reliability and scalability of the science platform.
• Develop software/workflows supporting long-term bioinformatics research and production.
• Enable data-driven biology and healthcare discoveries.
