Job summary

Freenome seeks a Senior Bioinformatics Research Engineer to advance our computational platform for R&D, building and deploying bioinformatics software and tooling in collaboration with biologists, ML scientists, and software engineers.

The role reports to the Director of Bioinformatics Research Engineering and offers a Hybrid option based in Brisbane, CA or remote work. Candidates should have strong Python skills and experience with large-scale systems.

Qualifications

• PhD or BS/MS with strong quantitative background.
• 4+ years in bioinformatics infrastructure, automation, and software engineering.
• Proven track record delivering major technical projects or analyses.
• Strong Python programming and experience with large-scale systems.
• Bioinformatics knowledge including central dogma and molecular biology.

Responsibilities

• Work at the intersection of computational biology, ML research, software engineering and biological data.
• Lead the development of Freenome’s bioinformatics research engineering framework and internal tools.
• Build for growth and scaling as research moves toward product development.
• Engineer robust data pipelines enabling liquid biopsy research.
• Manage and integrate data across lab, bioinformatics and clinical sources.
• Improve reliability and scalability of the science platform.
• Develop software/workflows for long-term bioinformatics research and production.
• Enable data-driven discoveries in biology and healthcare.
