Anthropic is seeking a Software Engineer on the Research Tools team in San Francisco. You will build and maintain full-stack applications and infrastructure that enable researchers to iterate quickly, run experiments, and derive insights from frontier AI systems.

This role blends product thinking with full-stack engineering, collaborating with researchers and engineers to understand workflows, remove bottlenecks, and ship solutions that boost productivity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on full-stack development.
• Experience building tools/platforms for technical users (engineers, researchers, data scientists, analysts).
• Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and ship quickly.
• Strong product instincts and ability to identify impactful problems to solve.
• Proficiency with modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Python).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain full-stack applications and infrastructure used by researchers for experiments, feedback, and analysis.
• Collaborate with research teams to translate workflows into technical solutions.
• Design intuitive interfaces and abstractions for complex research tasks.
• Create reusable platforms and tools to accelerate research app development.
• Prototype quickly and iterate based on user feedback, owning product areas end-to-end.
• Contribute to technical strategy and architecture for research tooling.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices for research applications.
