Job summary

Gotion Inc. in Irvine, CA seeks a Senior or Staff battery cell engineer to lead technical interfaces with U.S. OEMs on design, development, validation, and industrialization.

You will shape cell architecture, materials and safety discussions, representing capabilities and roadmaps while translating customer needs into cell-level targets and trade-offs. Expect collaboration across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and IP teams with up to 30% travel.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, electrochemistry, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery cell development, characterization, testing, or validation.
• Experience completing at least one full lithium-ion battery cell product-development cycle from concept to launch.
• Hands-on experience designing, executing, and interpreting cell performance, life, and degradation tests.
• Experience with dQ/dV and dV/dQ methods for analysis.
• Knowledge of electrochemical characterization techniques (GITT, EIS, CV, PITT).
• Experience with lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes (electrode, assembly, formation, aging, end-of-line testing).
• Knowledge of safety standards (UN 38.3, UL, IEC, GB, FMVSS).
• Experience with automotive or EV OEM customers.
• Experience DFMEAs/PFMEAs and supporting APQP, PPAP, product qualification, and audits.
• Hands-on lab experience with GITT, EIS, CV, PITT and material-characterization methods (XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, NMR).
• Experience analyzing large battery datasets using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead as the technical interface for U.S. OEM customers on cell design, development, validation, and industrialization.
• Provide leadership in discussions on cell architecture, materials, safety, and manufacturability.
• Represent Gotion’s capabilities, technology roadmap, and product portfolio to OEMs.
• Translate customer requirements into cell-level design targets and trade-offs.
• Develop test methods and validation strategies for cell-level and in-pack performance.
• Lead root-cause investigations and communicate findings to customers.
• Collaborate across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and IP teams to advance cell designs.
• Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally for engagements and launches.
