Job summary

Matrix Technologies, a 100% employee-owned engineering and automation firm, is seeking a Senior Batch Automation Engineer to design, configure, test, commission, and support batch control solutions for manufacturing clients.

The role requires ISA-88 expertise, hands-on batch experience, and proficiency with platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk Batch, PlantPAx, or Siemens SIMATIC Batch, along with HMI/SCADA, historians, and integration technologies. Travel up to 15-25% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Computer, or Controls Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited college.
• Minimum six years of controls, automation, electrical troubleshooting, and start-up experience.
• Senior-level batch automation experience is required.
• Hands-on experience with batch concepts, recipe management, procedural control, equipment phases, unit operations, ISA-88 terminology and design principles.
• Experience with multiple batch or process automation platforms (Rockwell, PlantPAx, Siemens, AVEVA/Wonderware) and associated HMI/SCADA systems.
• Experience with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC DA/UA).
• Knowledge of process control network architecture, cybersecurity considerations, and integration with historians/MES/reporting systems.
• EPC project experience preferred; FE/PE ISA CAP certifications preferred but not required.
• Ability to travel approximately 15-25%, both locally and overnight.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, test, commissioning, and supporting batch control solutions for manufacturing clients.
• Lead or support development of project scopes, designs, cost estimates, schedules, and technical assumptions for batch projects.
• Gather field data and develop functional specs, narratives, and test plans.
• Develop ISA-88 batch models including recipes, unit procedures, operations, phases, and equipment modules.
• Coordinate DCS/PLC code, HMI graphics, historians integration, and external platform communications.
• Lead software development and testing activities including design reviews and factory/site acceptance tests.
• Mentor teammates, supervise site safety, and promote continuous improvement of batch automation standards.
