Job summary

Pacific Life in Newport Beach, CA is seeking a Technical Lead to help build and optimize the back-end of our administration platform, which supports quoting, underwriting, billing, and claims. Relocation assistance may be provided.

You will lead a team of developers and contractors, collaborate with UX/UI designers and business stakeholders, and ensure high security and scalable performance in a complex insurance environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Technology Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years in Java-focused back-end development, with strong knowledge of API and RESTful services.
• 8+ years experience building technology solutions in Group Benefits insurance or financial services.
• Proficient in Git for version control.
• Experience with Kraken, OpenL, Flowable is preferred.
• 3+ years Supervisory experience preferred.
• Travel up to 10% to locations for planning and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Leadership and Architecture: set the architecture and strategy for technology products including back-end applications, data and reporting, and workflows.
• Back-End Development: lead design, development, and optimization of Java-based back-end services within the insurance platform.
• System Integration: ensure seamless integration across front-end, back-end, and third-party systems.
• Technical Leadership: establish secure, scalable practices for requirements, architecture, governance, and releases.
• Management: mentor developers, plan staffing, and manage budgets, including contractors.
• Microservices & API Development: design and implement microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Performance Optimization: monitor and address bottlenecks for optimal response times.
• Problem Solving: drive designs and improvements for complex business needs.
