Job summary

Laurel seeks a senior backend engineer to shape engineering practices for a digital-footprint product. You will design and operate reliable services, mentor peers, influence technical direction, and raise the effectiveness of engineers through strong judgment.

You will collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, and Customer Success to clarify requirements, measure success, and deliver incrementally while maintaining performance, security, and resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 6 years of professional backend software development experience; full-stack knowledge is a plus.
• Strong understanding of modern web technologies and large-scale data systems.
• Deep experience with TypeScript, Node.js, AWS SQS, and MongoDB.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with effective communication in a fast-paced environment.
• Customer-oriented approach and ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality work.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain reliable, reusable backend services and components.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, and Customer Success to clarify requirements and deliver incrementally.
• Diagnose bottlenecks and defects; improve performance, scalability, security, and resilience.
• Establish automated testing and CI/CD practices to support dependable releases.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and contribute to product/architecture discussions.
• Participate in on-call rotation and stay engaged with the product and users.
