Opiniion is building the next generation of its platform while continuing to evolve the systems that support customers today. The Staff Engineer, Backend role exists to raise the bar for backend engineering across both environments: writing production-grade code, mentoring engineers, and guiding the patterns and standards that keep services scalable, reliable, and maintainable.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend software development experience, including staff-level or senior technical scope.
• Proven design and shipping of scalable backend systems in SaaS or similar environments.
• Strong knowledge of backend architecture patterns (SOA, event-driven, DDD).
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or comparable languages.
• Experience designing APIs across REST, GraphQL, gRPC.
• Hands-on with cloud infra and containerized deployments.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities in production.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality backend code for production systems with focus on performance and reliability.
• Govern backend architecture standards and service boundaries with leadership.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Design and ship services, APIs, and data flows for current and next-gen architecture.
• Contribute to AI-capable backend systems and production workflows.
