Job summary

Obvio is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Ticketing & Payments team in San Carlos, CA. This hands-on, individual-contributor role builds observable, scalable APIs with strong security and reliability to support a growing platform.

You will collaborate with Infrastructure, Product, and Support to deliver solutions that meet evolving user needs. You will mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating large scale production systems.
• 5+ years programming with languages such as Go, Ruby, Java, Python, Kotlin or similar.
• 5+ years designing and building scalable backend APIs or platform services.
• 3+ years operational experience in production environments.
• Strong understanding of API design best practices—security, data interchange, version control and CI/CD.
• Track record of working directly with product management to shape solutions.
• Interest in working as a generalist across tech stacks to solve internal and external problems.
• A pragmatic mindset and ownership mentality with mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Scope, design, build and maintain APIs that are secure, scalable, and enterprise-ready.
• Improve tenancy and isolation boundaries across violations, citations and payments systems.
• Partner with product management to translate business needs into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Make engineering trade-offs and clearly communicate the rationale behind them.
• Operate what you build: respond to incidents and drive toward root cause.
• Mentor engineers to reason through trade-offs and document decisions.
• Set and hold a high technical bar, raising design and execution quality across the team.
• Collaborate effectively in a distributed and hybrid team with open communication.
