Encord is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Foundations team, responsible for building scalable, data-intensive systems that power our platform. The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, robust distributed services, and contributing to fast APIs used by customers.

This position offers autonomy to shape architecture and strategies, with a strong focus on delivering reliable systems at scale within a fast-growing company.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building large-scale backend infrastructure applications.
• Deep fluency in at least one high-level language (Python/TypeScript).
• Solid grounding in distributed systems concepts and load behavior.
• Experience owning services in production with monitoring and rollout.
• Experience with data migrations or re-architecture is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of major projects in database and processing systems.
• Build robust distributed systems and reason about failure under load.
• Contribute to performant protocols and APIs used directly by customers.
• Tackle complex domains and scale with simple solutions.
• Raise the bar through code reviews, pairing, and mentoring engineers.
