Job summary

GoodLeap is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build backend services and financial tools that power contractor payments and operations. You will design and scale APIs, ensure security and reliability, and collaborate with product, design, finance, risk, and operations.

The role emphasizes mentoring and establishing strong system design and observability practices. You’ll work on AWS-based infrastructure, align with product goals, and drive end-to-end delivery while maintaining high code

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience with backend focus (Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Strong system design skills for scalable, reliable distributed systems and APIs.
• Excellent communication and a leadership-oriented mindset.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code, mentoring others, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and evolve scalable, high-performance APIs and backend services for contractor financial tools.
• Build secure and reliable capabilities that support payments and other financial workflows.
• Integrate with internal and external systems while keeping services maintainable and extensible.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Finance, Risk, and Operations to translate business needs into resilient technical solutions.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, from design through testing, deployment, and post-launch support.
• Mentor engineers across the team, setting high standards for design, security, scalability, and code quality.
• Champion operational excellence through observability, documentation, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
