Job summary

Reddit’s Consumer Engineering organization is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own end-to-end product initiatives across scalable services and APIs. You will collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Platform teams to deliver reliable, low-latency features for hundreds of millions of users.

You will design APIs (GraphQL/REST/gRPC), optimize performance, and apply data-backed experimentation to guide decisions. This role supports remote or hybrid work within the United States.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience building and operating large-scale distributed serving systems in high-concurrency environments.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages such as Go or Python, with exposure to Java, Kotlin, Rust or C++.
• Experience designing scalable, maintainable APIs (GraphQL/REST/gRPC) for web and mobile clients.
• Familiarity with high-throughput caching and distributed datastores like Redis, Cassandra, PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Translate business and user needs into reliable, low-latency technical solutions.
• Own the full software lifecycle for major product initiatives from design docs to rollout and observability.
• Design, build, and evaluate A/B experiments using data to drive decisions.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and distributed backend services for client consumption.
• Establish engineering best practices and mentor teammates with modern tooling.
