Job summary

Reddit Consumer Engineering is hiring a Product Backend Engineer to build and scale services powering content discovery and engagement for hundreds of millions of users. You will partner with PMs, designers, data scientists and frontend engineers to deliver reliable, low-latency software across iOS/Android/Web ecosystems.

You will own end-to-end delivery, design and run experiments with BigQuery/HEX/Firebase, and drive API performance and system reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• Backend engineers with hands-on experience building and operating large-scale distributed serving systems.
• Strong knowledge of modern backend languages and APIs (GraphQL/REST/gRPC).
• Experience with high-throughput caching and distributed datastores is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own cross-functional product architecture by aligning with PMs, design, data science, and client engineers to translate needs into scalable solutions.
• Drive end-to-end delivery from design docs to rollout and observability.
• Design, run and evaluate A/B experiments, using analytics tools to inform decisions.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and backend services optimized for client consumption and UI performance.
• Establish engineering best practices and mentor teammates, leveraging modern tooling and AI-assisted workflows.
