Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team in the Institutional product group to build and operate real-time trading systems powering institutional exchange — matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You will own end-to-end reliability, write performance-critical code in Java, C++, or Go, and collaborate with Product and Infrastructure to deliver scalable, low-latency solutions for billions in daily volume.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure at scale.
• Deep proficiency in a backend language (Java, C++, or Go) with latency-focused JVM/Linux tuning.
• Track record designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams on complex projects.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Own reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Translate strategy into quarterly deliverables with cross-functional teams.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested backend code with a focus on latency and throughput.
