Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the Post-Checkout Order Platform. You will drive reliability, define capabilities for orders, captures, refunds and settlements, and mentor a team of engineers across critical payments-focused services.

You will own technical direction, partner with product and analytics, and advocate for scalable, robust APIs and architecture while maintaining high availability and operational excellence. Remote-first with office options in the US.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin in production environments.
• Proven track record of building reliable, scalable services.
• Strong knowledge of API design and service boundaries.
• Experience with distributed systems in payments/commerce is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product PM, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and trade-offs.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own operations and availability with monitoring, on-call, runbooks and tests.
• Set code review and design standards and evangelize them beyond the team.
• Develop teammates through feedback and mentorship.
