Job summary

Plane is seeking a backend engineer to own the Node.js and TypeScript services that move customer data, manage imports, and expose the developer surface used by external builders. You’ll ensure imports from Jira, Linear, and related tools stay reliable and consistent, with careful API decisions visible to customers.

You’ll work with Django engineers on data models, answer external issues in public GitHub, and design the queue and worker system with retries and idempotency.

Qualifications

• Shipped Node.js and TypeScript to production.
• Experience with Express, NestJS, or a comparable framework.
• Built queue and worker systems with retries and idempotency.
• Integrated with third-party APIs with non-control over rate limits and tokens.
• Comfortable with PostgreSQL and writing efficient queries.

Responsibilities

• Own integrations connecting Plane to Slack, GitHub, and other tools.
• Own importers migrating history from Jira, Linear, and similar tools.
• Design queue and worker architecture behind that work: retries, idempotency, backpressure.
• Build the OAuth and developer-facing surface that external builders write apps against.
• Work daily with the Django engineers whose data model you write into, and answer external developers in public GitHub issues.
• Reconcile state after something failed halfway. Partial imports, expired tokens, and rate limits require repair paths.
