Job summary

Plane is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Node.js) to own the core Node/TypeScript services that process all incoming work from Slack, GitHub, Jira and other tools. You will also own the developer surface used by external builders to write apps against Plane, collaborating closely with Django engineers and external developers in public GitHub issues.

Key responsibilities include designing queue architectures, implementing retries and idempotency, and ensuring robust data migrations.

Qualifications

• Shipped Node.js/TypeScript to production.
• Experience with Express or NestJS framework.
• Built queue and worker systems with retries and idempotency.
• Integrated with third‑party APIs with rate limits and tokens.
• Comfortable working with PostgreSQL and SQL queries.

Responsibilities

• Own the Node.js/TypeScript backend services for Plane's data pipelines.
• Own importers migrating history between tools like Jira/Linear.
• Design the queue and worker architecture including retries and deduplication.
• Build the OAuth and developer-facing surface for external builders.
• Collaborate with Django engineers and external developers via public issues.
• Handle failure recovery: partial imports, token expiry, rate limits.
