Job summary

Gravitate is seeking a senior backend engineer to own major areas of the fuel logistics platform, delivering large backend features with a focus on reliability, performance, and cost. You’ll design, implement, and operate Python services and APIs, model data in MongoDB, and run on Kubernetes in GCP and Azure.

You’ll mentor engineers, participate in product conversations, and drive observability and production improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Deep expertise in Python, API design, data modeling, and automated testing.
• Experience delivering large features end-to-end with moderate unknowns.
• Experience owning a service or major product area in production — reliability and performance focus.

Responsibilities

• Drive delivery of large backend features end-to-end; break projects into manageable plans and estimate work.
• Lead technical design for complex features; evaluate trade-offs; document decisions; design for extensibility.
• Own a significant product area — accountable for reliability and performance in production.
• Build and operate Python services, APIs, and data models (MongoDB) on Kubernetes across GCP and Azure.
• Debug production issues quickly, identify root cause, drive fast recovery and improvements.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; provide high-quality code review feedback and guidance.
