Job summary

Gravitate Energy LLC in Dallas, TX is hiring a senior backend engineer to own substantial areas of our fuel logistics platform. You will design large features, balance performance, maintainability, and cost, and document decisions for future engineers.

You’ll build Python services, APIs, data models in MongoDB, run on Kubernetes with GCP and Azure, and lead production incidents. You’ll mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to code reviews and architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Deep expertise in backend stack: Python, API design, data modeling, and automated testing.
• Experience owning a service in production with reliability and performance ownership.
• Strong debugging, on-call readiness, and ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Good written and verbal communication; open to AI-assisted development to boost productivity.

Responsibilities

• Drive delivery of large backend features end-to-end with planning and risk management.
• Lead technical design for complex features; evaluate performance, maintainability, and cost.
• Own a significant product area — ensure reliability and performance.
• Build and operate Python services, APIs, and data models (MongoDB) on Kubernetes across GCP/Azure.
• Debug production issues quickly; drive root-cause analysis and recovery.
• Drive monitoring, observability, and performance health; mentor engineers and review designs.
• Collaborate with product to shape medium-to-large features and provide constructive feedback.
• Write technical documents and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Unblock teammates; balance speed and quality; contribute to engineering culture.
