Job summary

Alpaca, a US-headquartered global brokerage infrastructure leader, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and maintain critical systems for the Japan market. You will enable JP-specific processes like NISA, MyNumber, and tax handling while aligning with JP-GAAP requirements.

You will collaborate with global teams, mentor engineers, and ensure 24/5 platform reliability in a fully remote, APAC-based role. Strong backend experience and regulatory familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

• Fluent JLPT N1 level in Japanese.
• Business-level English for meetings, design discussions, code reviews, and documentation.
• Experience designing financial systems, incl. double-entry accounting.
• Strong grounding in accounting principles, ledger structures, and reconciliation.
• Experience building scalable, high-availability financial applications with multi-currency support.
• Familiarity with Japan regulatory frameworks (FIEA, FSA, JSDA, JIPF, etc.).
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, C#, Scala, or C++).
• Experience with financial APIs, market data integrations, and trade settlement processes.
• Strong communication to collaborate with global teams and regulators.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems for the Japan market.
• Develop middle- and back-office systems with gRPC, REST, and vendor integrations.
• Collaborate with core teams to enable multi-language, multi-currency support for Japan-specific needs.
• Coordinate with regulators, vendors, and partners to translate requirements into technical specs.
• Lead on-call rotations and incident response during Japan business hours.
• Troubleshoot incidents and bugs to maintain platform reliability and performance.
• Mentor teammates and foster Alpaca culture in the Japan region.
• Work with global teams to align architecture with strategic objectives.
