Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Japan market. You will design, implement, and maintain systems that power millions of traders and integrate JPX, JSCC, JASDEC, banks, and identity vendors.

You will work with regional regulators and vendors, bridging engineering with Japan-specific requirements and global teams. You will lead scalable backend work, own go-based services, and contribute to core framework improvements, enabling multi-language and multi-currency support while

Qualifications

• Native or JLPT N1 level fluency in Japanese.
• Business-level English fluency for collaboration in meetings, design reviews and docs.
• Experience in designing and developing complex financial systems.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, ledger structures, and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

• Design highly scalable brokerage systems for the Japan market.
• Develop and integrate middle- and back-office services including gRPC and REST APIs and vendor integrations.
• Collaborate with global teams to align architecture and ensure multi-language, multi-currency support.
• Coordinate in Japanese with regulators, vendors, and partners and translate requirements for the global team.
• Troubleshoot incidents and participate in on-call rotations during Japan business hours.
• Contribute to regulatory alignment and scalable solutions enabling Alpaca's Japan expansion.
