Job summary

Alpaca is a US-headquartered, global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, and more. We are seeking a senior software engineer to help build and scale systems that empower millions of users and trading billions of dollars in assets.

The market data team oversees public APIs for streaming and historical endpoints, building a cohesive developer-first API, and producing new services and libraries to tackle scale challenges as we grow.

Qualifications

• Proficient in compiled imperative languages (Go, C, C++, Rust) with hands-on systems experience.
• Strong SQL or relational database skills.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking.
• Proficient with Linux/BSD and shell scripting.
• Experience with Kubernetes (GKE) and major cloud platforms (GCP).
• Background leading medium-scale projects across multiple teams.
• DevOps mindset and observability practices are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Influence the overall architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems.
• Design highly scalable, mission-critical systems.
• Obsess over latency; optimize for nanoseconds.
• Implement backend services and lead architecture for scalability and resilience.
• Maintain high software quality and comprehensive test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborative engineering upward.
• Troubleshoot incidents and resolve reported bugs.
• May be on-call to support timely engineering projects.
