Job summary

Verkada is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to support the Device Platform that bridges Verkada's cloud and hardware. You will design core platform features, scale the IoT core, and drive the licensing ledger, delivering reliable, scalable systems for enterprise customers.

You will mentor teammates, participate in design reviews, and align with other teams to shape the platform roadmap. Onsite in San Mateo, five days a week, with 6+ years of backend experience and Python/Go proficiency.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building backend services with consistency, latency, and uptime guarantees at scale.
• Fluency in at least one server language — Python or Go preferred; adjacent languages like Ruby or JavaScript (NodeJs) welcome.
• Skilled at listening to other engineering teams, shaping shared technical direction, and shipping changes they can build on without surprise.
• This role requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency for FedRAMP compliance, and onsite presence five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Architect, ship, and bring others along on major platform features end-to-end (IoT core, device-metrics platform, licensing ledger).
• Lead operational improvements that increase system robustness and reduce pager noise.
• Teach as you ship—design reviews, code reviews, crisp written communication, and direct mentorship.
• Listen to other Verkada teams, and help drive the platform's roadmap toward long-term bets.
