Affirm’s Identity International team is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to own backend systems for identity checks outside North America, delivering scalable Kotlin and Python services backed by AWS and MySQL.

This role emphasizes cross‑team collaboration, reliability, and operational excellence, with on‑call duties and mentorship as you help shape quarterly technical direction while working remotely from Spain.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin and modern cloud stacks.
• Proven ability to deliver maintainable, testable code.
• Strong communication and collaboration across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to articulate constraints and risks.
• Proactively identify issues, advocate for solutions, and drive execution.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and participating in on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality by improving code reviews and design standards.
• Mentor engineers and support new hires and interns; lead by example.
• Participate in on-call rotations as required.
