Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II, Backend (Identity Decisioning) to design and implement robust backend systems for identity validation across products. You’ll collaborate with product, compliance, auth, and fraud teams to enable compliant, scalable solutions in a remote-first environment.

Ideal candidates have 1.5+ years in backend, strong Python or Kotlin skills, and familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• You have a total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems.
• Proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Able to write clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Strong ownership mindset and growth orientation.
• Strong verbal and written communication for a global team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to make trade-off decisions.
• Support operations, metrics, on-call efforts and keep artifacts healthy.
• Contribute to interview processes and team growth.
• Own the quality and timely delivery of backend services.
