Job summary

onX is seeking a Backend Engineer to contribute to the Growth Infrastructure platform, focusing on content experimentation and event tracking. You will join a horizontal team supporting multiple verticals, delivering reliable, well-tested backend services.

This role reports to the Growth Infrastructure Engineering Manager and requires a passion for scalable systems and collaborative problem solving. You will work in a distributed company with multiple HQs and basecamps, and have opportunities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in API development, is required.
• A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX's Company Values.
• Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
• Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable services supporting Growth Infrastructure initiatives, including content experimentation and event tracking.
• Write unit, integration, and acceptance tests.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute design proposals for our services.
• Collaborate effectively with other engineers, PMs, and cross-functional stakeholders (mobile, BI, marketing).
• Leverage and extend existing onX services rather than reinventing them.
• Proactively identify and use AI workflows that increase velocity while not degrading quality.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support backend services after work hours
