Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking an experienced backend engineer to own the design and delivery of high-reliability financing services, from architecture through production deployment.

You will build backend services, APIs, and frameworks for loan lifecycle management and real-time position tracking. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in backend software engineering, strong experience with Go or Java, and a track record in distributed systems, with emphasis on correctness, availability, and data integrity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with production ownership of high-reliability or financial workloads.
• Proven track record designing, building, and scaling service-oriented architectures in Go, Java, or a comparable backend language.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems where correctness, availability, and data integrity are critical.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical design reviews, and raise the bar on code quality across a team.
• Familiarity with relational data stores, gRPC/Protobuf, and observability tooling in a cloud-native environment.
• Uses generative AI responsibly, with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of new financing products and features, from architecture through production launch, ensuring correctness and safety across high-value lending operations.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and frameworks that support loan lifecycle management, risk calculations, and real-time position tracking.
• Drive engineering excellence by improving developer tooling, testing infrastructure, monitoring, and operational reliability across financing systems.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Operations, and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable, well-scoped technical solutions.
• Lead technical initiatives that strengthen system resilience, reduce operational risk, and enable the team to ship safely at speed.
