Job summary

Chime is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Cards team in San Francisco to scale and evolve the Cards portfolio. You will work across service architecture with product, risk, and design partners to deliver resilient, secure systems, while primarily focusing on backend work.

You will design and ship low-latency APIs, mentor engineers, and lead multiple initiatives. Strong Rails experience, system design acumen, and a collaborative, hands-on approach are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development in production
• Technical lead experience for complex projects and teams
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks
• Experience with transactional databases and caching systems
• Deep understanding of architectural patterns for large-scale web apps
• Mentoring engineers and fostering team development; maintainable, well-tested code
• Curiosity and passion for deep system architecture and challenges
• Experience in fast-paced or early-stage environments is a plus

Responsibilities

• Drive technical design and architectural decisions, mentoring engineers and fostering cross-functional collaboration
• Lead and contribute to multiple projects, balancing ownership with team support
• Build and maintain robust, low-latency APIs and backend services powering Trust and Safety
• Become the domain expert in platform architecture and refine maturing platforms
• Partner with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship impactful features
• Improve platform reliability and performance via architecture, observability, and automation
• Evolve experimentation, policy lifecycle, and ML integration for smarter decision-making at scale
• Participate in on-call rotation and handle incidents outside regular hours
