Job summary

GitLab seeks a Senior Backend Engineer in Analytics Instrumentation to design a unified data infrastructure that spans GitLab SaaS and self-managed deployments. You will build and maintain backend systems providing visibility into customer usage patterns across the platform.

As a mentor, you will guide engineers, drive reliable data pipelines, and collaborate with product teams to align instrumentation with business needs.

Qualifications

• Production-grade backend systems experience in scalable environments.
• Experience designing reliable data platforms and instrumentation pipelines.
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive clear technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve a unified data collection platform used across GitLab engineering teams.
• Improve emission and quality of instrumentation data for accurate billing and usage analytics.
• Provide technical guidance for usage billing and instrumentation during working hours.
• Collaborate with product, data consumers, and enterprise data teams to deliver shared solutions.
• Make tradeoffs balancing usability for product teams with reliability for data consumers.
• Lead code reviews and document technical decisions to improve maintainability.
