Job summary

project44 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Backend to join our fast-paced engineering team in Chicago. You will design, build, and operate backend systems powering decision intelligence capabilities, using AI and analytics to help customers optimize supply chains.

Responsibilities include owning core platform services, transforming large logistics data into insights, and collaborating with product, data, and design to deliver scalable solutions on GCP.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience building cloud-based backend systems.
• Strong Java programming and debugging skills.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and data stores.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems powering decision intelligence capabilities.
• Develop services and workflows reducing manual effort and enabling action across the supply chain.
• Own and modernize core platform services, including IAM and search infrastructure.
• Transform large-scale logistics data into actionable insights and outcomes.
• Collaborate with product, data, and design to translate problems into scalable solutions.
• Build and operate systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Take shared ownership of development, testing, deployment, and operations.
• Participate in a team on-call rotation and resolve issues.
• Improve observability, monitoring, and tooling for reliability.
• Contribute to design discussions, reviews, and documentation.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing.
