Job summary

project44 is seeking a SeniorDevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer for its Foundations Engineering team in Chicago. You will design, build, and operate core infrastructure across GCP and AWS, own the Kubernetes platform, and drive cost optimization while ensuring reliability and observability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps.
• Experience administering Kubernetes at scale (GKE preferred).
• Kafka operations and streaming design; Strimzi experience a plus.
• Terraform IaC with module design and drift detection.
• GCP across core services (GKE, GCS, Cloud NAT, IAM).
• Observability with dashboards, SLI/SLO, runbooks.
• Cloud networking (VPCs, DNS, load balancing).
• Cloud cost management and spend visibility.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate core infra across GCP and AWS.
• Own Kubernetes platform—lifecycle, RBAC, networking, reliability.
• Maintain Terraform-based infra across clouds.
• Manage Kafka/Strimzi streaming infrastructure.
• Lead cost-optimization initiatives across cloud spend.
• Champion observability and reliability practices (SLOs/SLIs).
• Collaborate on platform standards for deployment and security.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident resolution.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to architectural discussions.
• Evaluate and adopt new tools to modernize the stack.
