Pearson seeks a senior software engineer to own and deliver large-scale backend systems, with hands-on design, development, and operational responsibility. You will architect, build, deploy, and maintain cloud-native services on AWS, lead critical initiatives, and mentor engineers across distributed teams while balancing new product delivery with reliability and technical debt reduction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend systems.
• Experience as technical lead or senior engineer for complex cross-functional initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of backend concepts including distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, and performance.
• Strong programming experience in a modern, typed language (Java/Kotlin/Scala/C#/Go/Rust/TypeScript).
• Experience designing microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Extensive AWS and cloud-native engineering experience with multiple AWS services.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, graph, and streaming data technologies.
• Strong understanding of API design, security, and data protection.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and observability.

Responsabilités

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable, reliable backend services and event-driven and streaming solutions on AWS.
• Own major engineering initiatives from discovery through delivery and production rollout.
• Balance new feature delivery with modernization, debt reduction, and reliability improvements.
• Provide technical leadership across onshore and offshore teams and ensure high-quality delivery.
• Mentor engineers through design guidance, reviews, and best practices.
• Produce clear system designs, runbooks, and operational documentation.
• Drive continuous improvement in development, deployment, and production support practices.
