Job summary

Pearson seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own and drive backend systems end-to-end. You will design, build, deploy, and operate scalable software solutions in a cloud-native environment, primarily AWS, focusing on reliability, performance, and modernization.

You will mentor teams across distributed locations and collaborate with product and architecture leaders to translate business needs into durable technical designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s a plus.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering, with backend systems experience.
• Experience leading complex, cross-functional software initiatives.
• Strong backend concepts: distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, fault tolerance, resiliency, performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable, reliable backend services, distributed systems, event-driven apps, and streaming solutions.
• Own major initiatives from discovery to delivery and production rollout.
• Balance new features with modernization and technical debt reduction.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in testing, observability, and security.
