Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC seeks a Senior Systems Engineer focused on AWS data engineering to support healthcare data modernization. This 100% US‑based remote role requires extensive AWS experience and the ability to design scalable data pipelines.

You will partner with stakeholders and a back‑end team to migrate XML object stores to AWS, implement efficient querying, and optimize cost and performance across S3, Athena, Redshift, and related services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in production environments.
• Deep hands‑on AWS experience across data services – S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL skills with the ability to design relational query layers over semi‑structured or non‑relational data (XML, JSON).
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and XML data migration in cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of the healthcare data platform.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store to scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reports and queries.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and storage/query options for XML data (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design reporting layer enabling business users to run SQL queries with familiar tooling.
• Architect migration path of XML object store data into the target AWS platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models.
