Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks an experienced Senior Systems Engineer specializing in AWS data engineering to modernize healthcare data platforms. You will drive the architecture for scalable, cloud-native data stores and enable SQL-based reporting for stakeholders.

The role requires deep AWS expertise, strong SQL, and collaboration with business users and a .NET back-end team. This is a 100% remote, U.S.-based position with a Public Trust clearance focus and a path to impactful data solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus
• Proven experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations
• Track record of evaluating AWS data services to meet reporting needs
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users
• Hands-on AWS experience with S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch
• Strong SQL skills and relational query design over XML/JSON data
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and data migrations
• Familiarity with BI tools like QuickSight or equivalent
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows
• Experience with CI/CD using AWS-native tooling and IaC (CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform)
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Knowledge of HIPAA-compliant cloud data architectures

Responsibilities

• Lead the healthcare data platform modernization initiative
• Architect a scalable AWS data architecture to enable SQL-based reporting
• Evaluate and select AWS data services to meet cost and performance goals
• Design and implement reporting layers for business users
• Plan XML object store migration to AWS with optimized storage formats
• Develop and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define data models and reporting requirements
• Coordinate with back-end engineers to ensure smooth data flow from EDI pipelines
• Implement CI/CD for data infrastructure using AWS tools
• Apply IaC practices with CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries clearly
