Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (AWS Data Engineer) to modernize healthcare data platforms in a cloud-native AWS environment. Remote work is offered for this U.S.-based role. You will drive data architecture decisions, migrations, and reporting capabilities supporting VA stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in software/data engineering with deep AWS expertise, strong SQL skills, and experience with XML data stores. U.S.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations in production enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Track record of evaluating and selecting AWS data services to meet reporting and query requirements.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Deep hands-on AWS experience across data-oriented services: S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store to scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reporting.
• Evaluate and decide AWS data strategy for the platform.
• Design reporting and query layer for business users to run relational SQL queries.
• Architect migration path from MSSQL XML store to AWS platform with optimal storage and partitioning.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
