Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the evolution of a healthcare data platform on AWS, modernizing data pipelines and storage architectures. The role focuses on SQL-based reporting, XML data handling, and scalable cloud-native designs.

You will shape data models, migrate XML stores to AWS, and implement cataloging and metadata practices while collaborating with stakeholders and developers in a remote, US-based environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience migrating cloud data platforms in production enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to design relational query layers over XML/JSON data.
• Hands-on AWS experience across data services – S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and EDI data pipelines.
• IaC with CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform and CI/CD in AWS.
• Ability to communicate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Agile methodologies and JIRA familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Lead the healthcare data platform modernization.
• Architect AWS data solutions including S3+Athena or Redshift for reporting.
• Design the XML object store migration path from MSSQL to AWS.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata.
• Collaborate with back-end developers to ensure clean data flows.
• Establish CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries.
