Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer focused on AWS data engineering to modernize a healthcare data platform. You will architect cloud-native solutions and drive the transition from legacy MSSQL/XML stores to scalable AWS data services, enabling efficient SQL-based reporting for business users.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, design data models, and implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS tooling and IaC to ensure secure, cost-effective, and high-performance data

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting cloud data platforms in production healthcare environments.
• Experience delivering SQL-based reporting for business users.
• Strong hands-on AWS with S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Experience with XML data stores and migrating XML object stores to AWS.

Responsibilities

• Lead the healthcare data platform modernization efforts.
• Design and implement scalable AWS data architectures for reporting and analytics.
• Define AWS data strategy and evaluate storage/compute options (S3 + Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Build a reporting layer enabling SQL queries for non-technical users.
• Architect migration of XML object store data into the new AWS platform.
• Develop and maintain data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
• Collaborate with BI stakeholders and developers; implement CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply IaC using CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
