Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (AWS Data Engineer II) for a 100% remote U.S. position focused on modernizing a healthcare data platform on AWS.

The role requires leading architectural decisions and collaborating with a back-end C#/.Net team to ensure seamless data flow from EDI processing into the new data layer. Responsibilities include designing scalable data architectures, implementing CI/CD pipelines with AWS-native tooling, and advancing XML data handling

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations in production enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Track record of evaluating and selecting AWS data services to meet business reporting and query requirements.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS experience across data-oriented services (S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch).
• Strong SQL skills to design relational query layers over XML/JSON.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores – parsing, querying, transforming XML at scale.
• Familiarity with BI tooling (Athena, QuickSight, RedShift) and CI/CD tooling.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.
• IaC experience (CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform).
• Strong communication of architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience translating business reporting requirements into data models.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of the healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve from MSSQL XML object store toward a scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reports.
• Evaluate and decide the right AWS data strategy for the platform.
• Design and build the reporting layer for relational SQL queries on healthcare data.
• Architect migration of XML object store data from MSSQL into the AWS platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
