Job summary

Fortitude Reinsurance Company Ltd. seeks an AVP, Insurance & Operational Accounting to oversee reserve, reinsurance settlement accounting, and R2R processes across all legal entities.

You will ensure journal entries, reconciliations, and ledger integrity, partnering with Reinsurance Ops, Actuarial, Treasury, and external providers. Lead continuous improvement in ledger feeds, intercompany allocations, and system integrations while mentoring senior associates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience within Life & Annuity (re)insurance.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, US STAT, SFS, and EBS accounting principles.
• Experience with legal entity accounting, intercompany transactions, reserves, reinsurance, expense accounting and/or financial analytics.
• Proven ability to execute and maintain internal controls, reconciliations, and ledger accuracy.
• Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing journal entries and fluctuation analyses.
• Prior exposure to audits (internal/external) and ability to respond to audit queries.
• Strong Excel skills; ERP and accounting systems knowledge (SAP, Workday) and reporting platforms (Coupa, Workiva, Power BI).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Proven ability to collaborate across departments including Actuarial, Reinsurance Ops., Treasury, FP&A, and external partners.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities with mentoring staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee core record-to-report activities including monthly journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations across all bases (incl. EBS).
• Oversee accounting and journal entries for reinsurance settlements with Reinsurance Ops.
• Partner with Reinsurance Ops to review inputs used for settlement and reserve accounting.
• Manage daily/month-end cash activity accounting and ensure alignment with settlements.
• Oversee journal entries for reserves with Actuarial and others across reporting bases.
• Manage entries related to Sidecar transactions and Modco payables for timely reporting.
• Oversee R2R, A/P, A/R, T&E, TPA, corporate expenses, debt, fixed assets across entities.
• Ensure compliance with intercompany allocation policies.
• Coordinate ledger feeds, new account setups, and entity allocations.
• Ensure completeness and internal control execution across reserve processes.
• Execute and document account reconciliations and resolve variances.
• Identify ledger feed processing and system integration improvements.
• Contribute to quarterly close coordination and ledger integrity reviews.
• Coordinate with offshore team to monitor deliverables and ensure accuracy.
• Identify process improvements for standardization, automation, and documentation.
• Assist in preparing schedules for reporting and audits.
• Collaborate with analytics to align ledger inputs with outputs.
• Coach and mentor senior associates to build technical strength.
