Job summary

Fortitude Re in Nashville is seeking an AVP, Insurance & Operational Accounting to oversee reserve, reinsurances settlement accounting, and related journal entries across all legal entities. This role ensures accurate journal entries and reconciliations, compliance, and continuous improvement of ledger processes.

The AVP collaborates with Reinsurance Ops, Actuarial, and external partners, mentoring staff and driving standardization and automation while supporting strategic financial initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CA preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience in Life & Annuity (re)insurance.
• Strong US GAAP, US STAT, SFS, and EBS knowledge and reporting experience.
• Experience with legal entity accounting, intercompany transactions and reserves.
• Ability to maintain controls, reconciliations, and ledger accuracy.
• Audit experience and ability to respond to audit queries with clarity.
• Strong Excel and ERP skills (SAP, Workday) and reporting tools (Power BI, Coupa).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and lead cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Oversee record-to-report activities including monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
• Manage journal entries for reinsurance settlements with Reinsurance Ops.
• Validate data inputs used for settlement and reserve accounting with stakeholders.
• Manage daily and month-end cash activity accounting and alignment with settlements.
• Oversee reserves accounting with Actuarial and other teams across bases.
• Handle Sidecar transactions and Modco payables for timely reporting.
• Oversee R2R, A/P, A/R, T&E, and other operational accounting activities.
• Ensure compliance with intercompany allocations and internal controls.
• Coordinate lead with offshore teams for timely reporting.
• Identify and implement process improvements for standardization and automation.
• Prepare schedules for reporting and address audit requests.
• Collaborate with analytics to align ledger inputs with outputs.
• Mentor senior associates and analysts to build technical strength.
