Job summary

Alignment Health in California is seeking an AVP of Accounting & SEC Reporting to lead external financial reporting, ensure GAAP/SEC/SOX compliance, and liaise with auditors in a multi-entity environment.

This role partners with the CAO and cross-functional leaders to maintain rigorous internal controls, assess complex transactions (ASC 606/842/805), prepare technical memos, and deliver accurate, timely disclosures while guiding a growing accounting team.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
• 8+ years of public accounting experience in a Big Four firm with a technical accounting background.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA required.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, SOX 404, and PCAOB standards.
• Ability to manage external reporting cycles in a large, complex organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation and filing of external reporting deliverables (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and disclosures.
• Ensure full compliance with US GAAP, SEC regulations, Reg S-X, Reg S-K, and PCAOB/SOX 404.
• Coordinate all financial reporting timelines with internal partners and external auditors.
• Serve as the Company’s technical accounting authority for complex transactions (ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805).
• Lead preparation of technical accounting memos, position papers, and audit-ready documentation.
• Monitor emerging accounting standards and oversee implementation of new GAAP guidance across the enterprise.
• Work with the corporate controller to enforce the Company’s accounting policies.
• Partner with Internal Audit and external auditors on control testing strategies and documentation.
• Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors during quarterly reviews, the annual audit and regulatory audits.
• Promote collaboration and cross-functional relationships to ensure reporting accuracy and compliance.
• Support complex transactions and strategic projects by providing guidance on accounting, controls, and reporting implications.
