Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Principal Avionics Hardware Engineer to lead avionics hardware design across spacecraft programs. You will prototype in lab environments, build harnesses, and test hardware from component to system level, ensuring reliability in space through radiation-aware design.

You will collaborate with mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineers to define vehicle architecture and ensure integration of avionics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in avionics and power hardware development for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability applications.
  • Hands-on engineering experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of common circuit analyses (Worst Case, Derating, Power Analysis, Timing).
  • Experience with space radiation design considerations for electronic components.
  • Experience with various sensor types and interfaces (analog/digital).
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools like Altium/Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead design and analysis of vehicle power systems (generation, storage, regulation, distribution).
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test hardware, including wiring harnesses and sensor integration.
  • Apply radiation hardening principles to ensure reliability in space.
  • Define and manage requirements for sensors and interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Collaborate with mechanical/thermal teams on layout, packaging, and connectors.
  • Develop schematics, PCB layouts, and perform circuit simulations (SPICE).
  • Create test plans and reports for hardware verification and validation at multiple levels.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
  • Maintain electrical power budgets across mission phases.
