Job summary

BlackSky, a real-time intelligence company, seeks a Staff Avionics Engineer (C&DH) to lead systems engineering across spacecraft hardware and software. The role involves defining CONOPS, decomposing requirements, building budgets, and delivering verification plans for orbiting assets.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineers, operators, and program managers in a hybrid Tukwila, WA setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Computer Science, Aerospace, Systems, or Electrical preferred).
• 10+ years in Aerospace/Defense with at least 2 years in hardware and software systems.
• Strong foundation for compute hardware and subsystem development lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of spacecraft and subsystem behaviors.
• Demonstrated ability to produce satellite budgets for compute systems.
• Proficient with requirements management practices.
• Experience developing systems engineering artifacts (ICDs, block diagrams, activity/sequence/state diagrams).
• Experience coordinating with supply chain as a hardware technical POC.
• Ownership mindset, urgency, and bias toward eliminating waste.

Responsibilities

• Organize, lead, and support development of Systems Engineering deliverables.
• Define and decompose mission CONOPS into Avionics requirements.
• Build and maintain tools to generate spacevehicle budgets and analysis products.
• Develop system, subsystem, and component verification and test plans.
• Communicate analysis results to peers, Chief Engineer, program management, and customers.
• Work with software developers to ensure system/component understanding.
• Participate in IPTs as a subject matter expert for compute systems.
• Provide technical oversight of component suppliers and support supply chain.
• Build/refine automated tools for analyzing test/verification data across levels.
• Other duties as assigned.
