Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a veteran hardware designer and systems engineer in Tukwila, WA for a hybrid role. You will own spacecraft avionics hardware design, verification, and transition to production, collaborating with systems, software, and mechanical teams to deliver advanced satellite performance.

The role emphasizes HDL programming, FPGA bring-up, and multi-disciplinary teamwork, reporting to the Director of Electrical Engineering. Candidates must be U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with digital electronics design training.
• 10+ years in digital design including HDL programming (VHDL preferred) and test bench development.
• Experience with embedded processors in a SoC FPGA and related interfaces.
• Ability to write test benches using ModelSim, Vivado Simulator, or similar.
• Hands-on lab experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, etc.
• Experience implementing, prototyping, and bring-up of high-speed interfaces.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Must be a U.S. Person.

Responsibilities

• Serve as digital hardware design engineer for spacecraft avionics across all lifecycle stages from requirements to production.
• Synthesize design requirements from unit and system level specs.
• Write HDL for FPGAs and verify with simulation and testing.
• Troubleshoot performance during hardware bring-up and testing.
• Create interface docs to support Flight Software verification and validation.
• Interface with external suppliers to define specs and deliverables and plan integration and test.
