Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a Staff Flight Software Engineer in Tukwila, WA. You will design, develop, and lead flight software for the satellite imaging payload and ADCS subsystems, reporting to the ESG Senior Manager. This hands-on role involves cross-functional collaboration across embedded teams and occasional remote work.

Strong C/C++, Python, and Embedded Linux experience are essential, with leadership responsibilities and the ability to deliver high-quality software on schedule. A U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience delivering and maintaining embedded software in a production environment.
• Expertise in clean, maintainable C/C++ and Python code.
• Expertise in embedded systems and Embedded Linux (Buildroot, Yocto).
• Proven experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver on time and budget.
• Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Able to work across teams in a diverse environment.
• US-born citizenship due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide expertise for ADCS and imaging payload software design and development.
• Lead and participate in Agile-like sprint planning and standups; manage tasks with Jira.
• Collaborate with ESG software and cross-functional engineers to deliver features and fixes.
• Ensure documentation, testing, and analysis meet requirements and goals.
• Assist Systems Engineering with requirements development and management.
• Contribute to flight software design, development, unit tests, and release processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
